COMMUNITY
DIALOGUES
Dialogues encourage reflection and shared problem-solving, highlighting the importance of community-led care and resilience
Our Activities
Ilitha Labantu's community dialogues create transformative spaces for meaningful engagement and social cohesion. By fostering open discussions on GBV prevention, response mechanisms, and support services, we empower communities to build resilience, challenge harmful social norms, and end violence and abuse together.
Community and family well-being and resilience
Ilitha Labantu facilitates family enrichment, positive parenting and self-realisation sessions that help communities address the intergenerational roots of violence.
These community-centred interventions strengthen women’s emotional and economic resilience, promote healthier family relationships and support parents and caregivers to create safer environments where violence is challenged rather than accepted as normal.

Elderly Engagement
Ilitha Labantu facilitates dialogues that create space for meaningful engagement on the rights, protection and dignity of older persons. These conversations raise awareness of elder abuse, strengthen community responsibility and reinforce the understanding that abuse against older persons is both a violation of their rights and a crime.

Through open discussion and shared reflection, participants explore the challenges and realities faced by older persons, the importance of recognising and reporting abuse, and the role that families and communities can play in promoting safety, respect, care and dignity.

Youth Engagement and Leadership
Ilitha Labantu’s youth engagement and leadership sessions equip young people and youth facilitators with practical skills to support positive leadership within their schools and communities. Through participatory approaches, young people are encouraged to strengthen their facilitation, communication and leadership abilities, while building the confidence and tools needed to engage their peers constructively.

Young Women’s Leadership
Ilitha Labantu creates dedicated spaces for young women to explore their identities, discover their strengths and develop their voices as emerging leaders. Through young women’s dialogues, #GirlChat and the #GirlChat camp, participants engage in discussions and activities focused on self-awareness, confidence, leadership, public speaking, resilience and personal development.

The camp provides a safe, supportive and inspiring environment where adolescent girls can explore their passions, challenge themselves, express themselves creatively and connect with peers. Trauma-informed facilitation helps participants navigate social pressures and vulnerabilities, while building their capacity to make informed decisions, set healthy boundaries and articulate their goals and aspirations. These experiences strengthen confidence, communication and resilience while fostering peer support, belonging and a sense of sisterhood.

Social Cohesion and Community Safety
Ilitha Labantu works to strengthen understanding, inclusion and social cohesion between migrant and host communities while promoting the protection of migrant women from violence, exploitation and abuse. Through community education and dialogue, we challenge harmful misconceptions, raise awareness of rights and available support, and encourage communities and institutions to create safer, more inclusive environments for all women.
