Housemother – Position based in Cape Town (1)

Closing Date: 28 February 2023 

Ilitha Labantu is a social service and educational organization with a specific focus on addressing violence against women and children and supporting those affected by it. This is accomplished through individual and family counselling, workshops, skills training and empowerment, and acting as a trusted advisor in government and community processes. The client base is particularly focused amongst women living in townships and rural areas of South Africa. 

Ilitha Labantu seeks to appoint a Housemother to be based at the Ilitha Labantu’s Dorothy Zihlangu Transition House, Cape Town. This position is a full-time one-year contractual post.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Listen to and be an emotional support person to the beneficiaries.

  • Ensure that beneficiaries adhere to house rules.

  • Using risk management techniques, provide a safe and clean environment for the beneficiaries

  • Accompany beneficiaries to and fro regulated appointments.

  • Maintain stock levels and immediately plan for a reorder.

  • Act as liaison to social workers and the house manager to help facilitate services necessary for the beneficiaries, receiving assistance & support from the Legal Department.

  • Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing

  • Ensure all rooms are cared for and inspected according to standards

  • Protect equipment and make sure there are no inadequacies

  • Notify superiors on any damages, deficits and disturbances

  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience

  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety and be aware of any company-related practice

  • Keeping facilities and common areas clean and maintained.

  • Cleaning and stocking restrooms.

  • Cleaning up spills with appropriate equipment.

  • Assisting clients when necessary.

  • Properly cleaning upholstered furniture

 

COMPETENCY PROFILE

 

  • A minimum of grade 12 certificate

  • Must have a first-aid certificate

  • Five (5) years of work experience

  • Has worked in an NPO/NGO working environment

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • A strong sense of responsibility and urgency and the ability to deliver regularly on time

  • Possession a valid driver's license is an added advantage.

Paralegal – Position based in Cape Town (1)

Ilitha Labantu seeks to appoint Paralegal to be based at Ilitha Labantu head office in Gugulethu Cape Town this position is a full-time one-year contractual post.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide legal advice to clients either face to face or telephonically

  • Provide critical legal information and assist clients on legal questions and procedures

  • Capture cases and create an electronic and hard filing system;

  • Provide legal guidance to clients

  • Assist with applications for Protection Orders/Interdicts etc.

  • Court support, court preparation and liaise with SAPS/investigating officer/prosecutors etc.

  • Identify and share trends and initiate suitable responses and recommendations and mediate dispute resolutions;

  • Public Legal education and training such as talks and workshops on issues such as Succession etc.

  • Simplification and training on legislation and policies in line with Women & Children’s rights

  • Identify internal and external service delivery challenges relating to violence against women and children.

  • Conduct advocacy actions together with community groups to achieve rights through a change in policy

  • Initiate and support Ilitha Labantu and other campaigns to achieve policy change through providing information;

  • Promoting a message; recruiting support; consulting with stakeholders;

  • Capture data accurately, identify trends, give input into analysis and assist with research

 

COMPETENCY PROFILE

 

  • A minimum of a LLB

  • Has worked in an NPO/NGO working environment Minimum of 2 years

  • Strong inter-personal skills to liaise with Senior Management

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written

  • Above average experience and knowledge in family law etc.

  • A strong sense of responsibility and urgency and the ability to deliver regularly on time

  • Strong human resource management skills

  • Must have a driver’s licence

  • Willingness to travel

Receptionist – Position based in Cape Town (1)

Ilitha Labantu seeks to appoint Receptionist to be based at Ilitha Labantu head office in Gugulethu Cape Town this position is a full-time one-year contractual post.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide general reception and secretarial services for the Ilitha Labantu Staff

  • Answer, screen and appropriately re-direct incoming telephone calls and emails including identifying the appropriate staff member to take enquiries

  • Receiving visitors and deliveries to the organisation

  • Coordination of counselling room and board room bookings and liaising with staff as needed

  • Provide secretarial support for Ilitha Labantu and Board meetings including organising and scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, recording minutes, distribution documents to members and following up on actions as necessary

  • Coordinating Director’s diary as required, including organising meetings, luncheons, and appointments.

  • Maintains security by following procedures; monitoring car logbook and register of staff

  • Request and coordinate transport and or vehicles with Warehouse

  • Managing travel and accommodation arrangements for staff

  • filing / printing / photocopying (ensure there is printed office material at all times)

  • Assisting with events coordination ad hoc administration duties

  • To carry out other appropriate duties as requested by the Director & Executive Director

  • Monthly Office Inventory furniture and equipment

  • Checking of Office Promotional Material (All including Banners)

  • Checking of fire extinguishers

  • Office groceries, maintain funds for office supplies and replenish supplies.

  • Inventory of office Stationary

  • Maintain communication with relevant suppliers.

Administration

  • General office and clerical duties including general filing, mail distribution, maintaining and ordering of office supplies, monthly inventory, organising repair and service of office equipment and facilities

  • Assist in formatting and updating information the website as requested

  • Maintain Centre’s electronic Data base of organization, always update

  • Collect and file all registers from workshop, training, seminars and conferences

  • Assist with the organising and promoting of workshops, seminar program, including venue booking, catering liaison, and promotional mail outs.

  • Work as part of a project team in relation to conferences and other events organised by the organisation.

  • Generating and receipting purchase

  • Other duties as directed by the HR & Financial Manager or the Senior Management within the scope of the Ilitha Labantu level and job description.

  • Assist Project with arrangements for the Board General Meeting including booking flights, accommodation, venue hire and catering.
