SOCIAL WORKER – Position based in Cape Town

Ilitha Labantu is a social service and educational organization with a specific focus on addressing violence against women and children and supporting those affected by it. This is accomplished through individual and family counseling, workshops, skills training and empowerment, and acting as a trusted advisor in government and community processes. The client base is particularly focused amongst women living in townships and rural areas of South Africa.
Ilitha Labantu seeks to appoint a Social Worker to be based at Ilitha Labantu head office in Gugulethu this position is a full-time one-year contractual post.  





A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions 



Fluent in written and spoken English, Xhosa and any other language.  The ability to structure and convey concepts in writing is essential.


Experience and Skills:

  • Experience managing a project or program, preferably in social services, Experience working in programs focused on domestic violence and abuse, women's development, or related field preferred.

  • Must have a least 5 years’ experience

  • Experience assessing program needs, Experience with program reporting

  • Ability to maintain reporting systems and monitor program goals

  • Excellent follow-up skills and analytical thinking

  • Be able to develop working materials

  • High initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Ability to complete tasks in a professional timely manner

  • Good verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Efficient planning and organization skills

  • Ability to facilitate workshops and trainings

  • Creative approach to finding solutions

  • Report writing skills


Personal Characteristics:

  • Has worked in an NPO/NGO environment

  • Ability to work in the field with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Strong inter-personal skills to liaise with senior management

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written

  • Commitment to the confidentiality of clients and organization

  • Commitment to the principles of Ilitha Labantu, its aims and objectives as an organization and, take an interest in broadening her understanding of gender issues in South Africa

  • Punctuality and regular attendances.  

  • Must have a Police Clearance

  • Essential Driving Skills (Must have a driver’s licence)

  • Own transport added advantage

  • Willingness to travel

  • Willingness to work beyond working hours
